Cheaper than OurFamilyWizard: what UK & Irish co-parents really need

Reviewed 18 July 2026 · Prices verified July 2026 · Independent comparison

OurFamilyWizard is a capable app, but it is one of the most expensive in the category, and there is a catch that is easy to miss: each parent needs their own paid subscription. That means a single household can end up paying two subscriptions for the same tool.

Before you commit to that, it is worth asking what you actually need, because the everyday essentials are available free to start, with nothing charged per parent.

What OurFamilyWizard costs

Verified July 2026 from ourfamilywizard.co.uk. Billed annually, per parent.
PlanPrice (per parent, per year)What it adds
Essentials£107.99Core tools, 45 minutes/month of calls, 5 GB storage
Premium£155.99Unlimited calling, storage and certified records
Max£215.99Call recording and transcription
Both parentsEach parent subscribes separately, so a household typically pays roughly double the figures above

At Premium, two parents paying separately comes to over £300 a year. At Max, over £400. For many separated families, that is a meaningful amount to spend on an app.

What most co-parents actually need

Strip it back and most families need the same handful of things: a shared calendar for handovers, secure messaging with a clear record, a place to log expenses, and somewhere to keep documents. ParenThing gives all of that on its free tier, for both parents, with one Premium plan (€12.99 a month) covering the whole family and your data hosted in the EU.

The premium extras OurFamilyWizard charges more for, like call recording and transcription, are genuinely useful in some high-conflict cases, but most co-parents never need them.

The cheapest option that still covers the essentials: ParenThing has a free tier both parents can use, and its Premium plan (€12.99 a month) is one subscription per family, not one per parent. AppClose also has a free tier, though it is US-hosted. 2houses charges one fee per family rather than per parent, if you prefer a paid all-in-one.
