How we use AI & your data

ParenThing uses a little AI to help keep your conversations calm and your children safe, never to make decisions about your family, and never for advertising. This page explains it in everyday language. For the full legal detail, see our Privacy Policy.

The one thing to know: AI helps, it never decides

Inside ParenThing, AI suggests, flags and supports. It never decides anything about your family. It doesn't determine custody, money, or who sees your children. A person is always in charge of every decision, and you always choose what to send and share.

Where AI helps

Calmer, safer messages

To keep conversations safe, ParenThing checks messages for harmful or unsafe content. Anything inappropriate in a chat a child can see is blocked outright, and where a message reads as tense, ParenThing may gently suggest a calmer way to say it. It's a safety net running quietly in the background, and you always decide what to send.

Child wellbeing check-ins (only if you turn it on)

This feature is off by default. If you choose to enable it, your child can log how they're feeling each day, and ParenThing helps you notice patterns so you can support them. Your child never sees a score or rating: the insight is private to you as their parent, and it is never used for advertising or shared beyond your family.

Support for professionals

Mediators and legal professionals who work with a family can use AI to help draft neutral, balanced summaries. A professional always reviews and stands behind anything that carries their name. The AI is a drafting aid, not the author.

What our AI does, and never does

Flag and block unsafe content, especially where a child can see it
Suggest a calmer way to phrase a tense message
Help you notice how your child is feeling, if you opt in
Help professionals draft neutral summaries they then review

It never

Decides custody, money, or access
Sells your data or uses it for advertising
Builds a commercial profile of you or your child
Trains outside AI models on your family's content
Replaces a person's judgement

Being honest about what the AI reads

Transparency means telling you plainly what is analysed:

Message content is checked so we can keep conversations safe, particularly for children.
If you enable wellbeing, your child's mood check-ins are analysed to create the private insight we show you.

That's the extent of it. Content is only ever analysed to provide the feature you're actually using, not to watch you, and not for any commercial purpose.

Where your data goes

These features are powered by a specialist AI provider we work with under a strict data-processing agreement. Your content is processed only to deliver the feature, and is not used to train their models. Where any processing happens outside the European Economic Area, we rely on approved safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

We never sell your data, and we never show ads. The full list of the providers we rely on, and the safeguards in place, is in our Privacy Policy.

You're always in control

Child wellbeing is opt-in: off until a parent turns it on, and you can turn it off any time.
Message safety protects children by default, but you always choose what to send.
You have full rights over your data: access, correction, deletion and more (see the Privacy Policy).
