The same steps work on an iPhone, on an Android phone, and in your browser at app.parenthing.ie. Your account is the same account on all three.
Your login, your profile and your personal details are removed, and you are signed out everywhere. You will no longer be able to sign in, and you will stop receiving any email or notifications from us.
This is the part we want to be straight with you about, because it is unusual and it is deliberate.
ParenThing is a shared record between two parents. Things you contributed to that shared record, such as messages you sent, calendar events, expenses and agreements, are kept when you delete your account. They are no longer linked to a live login, but they remain visible to your co-parent.
We do this because that record does not belong to you alone. Your co-parent did not ask for anything to be deleted, and these records are often the agreed history of arrangements for a child, which can matter later, including in court. Removing one parent's side of a conversation would leave the other parent with an incomplete and misleading record.
If you want that content removed as well, write to us at support@parenthing.ie from the email address on your account and tell us what you want deleted. We will consider every request, we will tell you what we can and cannot do, and we will explain why. Where the law gives you the right to have it erased, we will erase it.
Deleting your account from the app takes effect immediately. Personal data held in our systems is removed within 30 days, except where we are required to keep it longer by law, for example financial records that Irish tax law requires us to retain for up to seven years.
If you have lost access to your account and cannot delete it yourself, email support@parenthing.ie from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete it. We will verify that the request is genuinely from you before we act, because a deletion request is the one instruction we can never undo.
If you pay for Premium, deleting your account does not cancel the subscription, because we do not take the payment. It is billed by Apple or by Google, and only they can cancel it. Cancel it in the App Store or in Google Play, under subscriptions, before or after you delete the account.
